Look Out

At first glance you may not see beyond your initial judgment of my person, passion, or purpose on this earth.  You could not possibly know, perceive or gather who I am by my appearance.  You cannot assess my motive, mannerism, or movement by my style of dress, the clothes I wear, or the look I sport.  All are items that cover the essence of who I am. It’s an expression of my particular creativity, custom, and culture. Be it a headscarf that covers my face and hair, a hooded sweat shirt, or a long dress or skirt that covers those things that will usually attract the eye: your noticing me does not constitute your knowing me. We are more than what others are privy to see. We are limited by our inability to see beyond our own expression, environment, and experience.

By looking at me can you see my heart? Who knows the breath and depth of man’s passion?  What s/he feels or do not feel in relation to any one thing or person at any given time?  Can you determine ones mindset, define their motives, and decide their mission by the look of them? Are we products of our environment assimilating to the norm because being or appearing different is a price we are unprepared to pay? Are we seeking acceptance from (self, society)? Do we fear going unnoticed, untouched, unfulfilled within society? Maybe we’re soliciting our own awareness, awakening, and attentiveness to selfishness or selflessness. Does our attire indicate where we are in process? We cannot see what’s in the heart therefore we will never truly know or understand the depth of one’s passion.

Economics, environment, and education formulate our outlook on life and love. The sum total of our expression becomes evident to us by how we interpret those things we experience.  Interpretation in and of itself is subjective: it is not all inclusive or universal in its application. Our experience with injustice, inequity, and inequality mirrors a look we as a people desire to change.  Do we change the experience by replicating the expression of the fallen?  Do we assimilate to the notions of our environment and refrain from wearing such items less we or our children suffer the same fate? Fear of one’s expression, environment, and experience causes ALL of us to see what we want to see. In every situation we are given the opportunity to make the right or wrong choice. That choice will determine how you live and love God, yourself, and others. That choice will affect how you are seen and remembered beyond assumptions or actualizations. That choice determines one’s purpose as it has been revealed or lived out on this earth.
