A lady at my church was walking by and heard me ask my friend’s son when he was going to take me on a date (in jest may I add) and she told him “tell her never…she’s high maintenance…you see the way she dress…you don’t want to have to work that hard to keep her looking like that”.
Now let’s look past the fact that she invited herself into our conversation, that she was talking to a five-year old, and that her statements were potentially offensive. What would be the motivation behind her statements and the objective of her discourse? Should we teach our young men that certain women are out of their league? Not to reach for or rise to the occasion of a woman’s standard of care? Or should we teach him to pay attention to how a woman carries and cares for herself? Should we encourage him to value quality and appreciate the best or a beautiful presentation? Maybe we should encourage young men to learn the art of chivalry and romance instead of letting them look and lure in the shadows without a clue on how to go after what they’re attracted to. Idk maybe or maybe not…I’m just saying what I’m saying.
At first glance both perspectives may seem extreme but when you think in terms of lasting impressions which one would be more advantageous for life and love? Hang back or go for it? Quality attracts quality. Maybe it’s just one of those crushes and maybe I should’ve just ignored him running in the opposite direction when ever I came near or maybe the fact that I showed him there’s nothing to be nervous or scared about when approaching me helped give him confidence.
There’s not a time I see him now that he hides or shy away…he says “hi auntie Brina you look beautiful today”. High maintenance or highly motivated to help others see life and love differently? When we step out, speak we represent Jesus..be intentional about your presentation and be proactive about the message your life and love gives. You deserve the best…be willing to work for it…anything that comes too easy may not be worth it. Life and love requires and rewards your effort~AntTBri
